Where can I find rustic looking paving stones and rocks for a rock garden?
I have a lot of river rock, free for the taking. Its mostly 4″ to 8*’ diameter some is larger. Leave a email or contact number if you want it. Bring your own buckets

We are looking for some natural looking, rough shaped paving stones (see photo) to break up our rather feeble lawn. We also need rocks that would be suitable to make a rock garden or rocky planter. We are having trouble finding what we need! Any tips / advice / leads would be much appreciated.

Sandor used to have those at Liberty Sunset, but that’s closed up shop- perhaps he will have them at the Red Hook nursery space on Van Brunt this summer. You really need to go to Landscape supply yard, as the large assymetric peices aren’t typical. Maybe see if Sammarco Stone has them (they might just have ‘finished’ peices). If you can travel, you can call some of the Dix Hills nurseries and see what they have. There are a bunch of wholesale yards, plus retail on Half Hollow Rd. out there.

Extech has a huge selection of stones as well. They have a location in LIC, or you can call. And of course there is Craigslist; if you are patient and lucky, you can occasionally see listings for odds and ends of bluestone flagstones.
