Unfinished Hickory floors?

Hi Brownstoners, I’m thinking about buying unfinished Hickory floors (there is a good deal at Lumber Liquidators), but I heard they are hard to sand and finish (just with poly). Any experiences out there? Thanks! Cat

Hi Cat, When it come to **Hickory floor refinishing** we like to remind our clients that this type of wood floor comes in wide variety of color variations which is due to the cut of the boards – being either sap wood (lighter color) or heart wood (darker color).  When sanding we use a very fine (to 120-grit) sandpaper and then water-pop the floor.  When you water pop, you are mopping the sanded floors with water. After the floor dries, we apply the finish. Water popping helps eliminate imperfections in the wood and gives the floor a more even and consistent look when applying the finish.  We usually do natural finish for our clients as **Hickory floors** are beautiful as is!
