Generators
It also should be noted that if you are going to go out and buy yourself a generator or get prepared for the next incident that ???petrol/gasoline??? is only stabile for 6-12 months (12-18 when used with a stabilizer and kept at low temps). but Diesel WITH stabilizer and antifungal additives and an fuel/water separator (the microbes live in the water layer at the base of tank if not treated) can be stored safely for up to 8-10 years (Lol don???t ask me how I know this??????.) and that diesel generators have less parts needing maintenance. BTW this is still the best $20 you can spend to be prepared – http://bit.ly/WaterBob Cheers, Dean

Anyone know if you are you allowed to have a generator in your brownstone in NYC? I really don’t want a gas (“petrol”) powered portable but one of those serious suburban numbers that run off propane/gas. Not sure where I’ll put it but I’ll deal with that if someone has the answer tp question part 1!

Yes, given what so many of our neighbors have had to deal with since Sandy, I am interested in the answer too!

you can have gas fired generac generac.com/Residential/HomeBackupSystems/, which requires plumbing filing for gas work, and electrical filing for electrical part, cost installed $12,000-$15,000, and it will work only during emergency, or cogeneration system , if installed in island configuration will run about $45,000\. so i guess most of the population will stick with gasoline fired generators home depot style..
