Painting Stainless Steel Railings?

It would be really laborious but probably if you sand them really thoroughly & put a proper primer on it could work.

Has anyone tried painting smooth, shiny, stainless steel railings (outdoor)?  We may not be able to replace them for a while and I’d really love to paint them black.  Is it impossible to get paint to adhere?  Any tips?  Thanks!
