Thanks guys for helpful and valuable suggestion in my opinion one can maintain beauty of expensive rugs for longer with a bit of careful attitude. Regular inspection, regular vacuum cleaning, saving rugs from direct sunlight and professional cleaning once a year, can increase durability of rugs. You should regularly inspect your rugs for dirt particles and loose fibers. Remove dirt particles instantly if you spot them. Also make sure to keep your rugs out of sun as direct sunlight will lead to discolouration of your rugs. Close blinds, shades or sheer curtains can be used to prevent direct sunlight.

proper, meaning thick, padding underneath also preserves the fibers. you can read all this and more online if you google oriental or persian rugs.

Frequent vacuuming is the best routine care. Dirt is sharp and damages the fibers. And once it gets lodged deep is difficult to remove. Also keep them out of direct bright sun if possible. Any wet cleaning you attempt could potentially cause the color to fade and/or run, especially if it is vegetable dye as the most valuable should be. You might also consider rotating the rug to balance wear from foot traffic and fading from windows.

If your rugs are hand-knotted do NOT use a vacuum with a rotating brush; just use a cannister machine with a plain rug attachment.

are they wool rugs? then they are expensive but very durable. ABC has a place in NJ that will clean them for you and repair as needed. costs a few hundred dollars.
