we had a few leaks from the hurricane. we know there is some moisture in the walls still. can someone recommend a good entity to handle? and advice re: same? no discloration or even a speck of anything on any wall. is it still safe in there? one of the rooms is a bedroom. thanks in advance.

i had a similar issue but my mold buildup was bad.  we broke the sheetrock 3 feet above the ground floor and got rid of it.  we are in the process of waterproofing the cellar to prevent the mold from reappearing.  i’d also recommend getting those home testing kits from lowe’s. they’re like 12 bucks.  run a dehumidifer.  lastly i would buy one of those devices that measures moisture.  you place the device on any surface and it will notify you if there is moisture in there.

If you don’t see mold, it’s likely not there. Do you have plaster or sheetrock walls? Mold cannot grow in plaster. I love plaster.

Guikazoid, I do not know, but mold spores are present in the air at all times. Of course, you want to avoid introducing an unusually high concentration of them. When you remove the mold, you are supposed to take precautions to cover and contain so the spores don’t fly everywhere. The procedures are similar to lead paint abatement.

Basement was flooded pretty bad about 7 years ago and went through the entire process with GAC Environmental. They are based uptown but brought their entire crew to bk remidiate and decontaminate my basement. They were totally transparent through the entire process of testing and providing a detailed and scientific based estimate on how much it would cost to rectify our mold problem.  http://www.gacenvironmental.com/  Did a excellent job with waterproofing and sealing the the walls and floors haven’t had any problems since.  FYI they aren’t cheap but they know what they are doing and you get what you pay for at the end of the day…
