Exposing wood beams / sprinkler requirements

Not in a one family as long as you do not requrie a fire rated ceiling say for the boiler room.

Does anybody know whether you are required to sprinkler a single-family home if you choose to expose the structural wood beams?  Sub-question — we are considering removing a bearing wall which may require the introduction of additional beams as support.  What if we chose to let those beams stay exposed?  The building was built in the 1930s, if that matters.

I’ve never heard of that requirement.  We’re in contract on a house and plan to expose beams – neither our contracor, agent and HUD consultant said anything about sprinkler requirements.  I’ve also seen beams exposed on many of the newly renovated houses we looked at (2 families) and none of them had sprinklers.
