If I’m not mistaken, there seem to be more cons than pros about powerwashing brick facades. A lot of damage can be done to the brick by overzealous power washing.

Across the street from BIG NYC is a lot that has all sorts of renovation supplies (doors, metal and iron work, lumber, tubs, etc…). We just picked up a pair of brownstone doors from them for about $300\. They are located off the 9th St entrance to Lowes between 9th and the parking lot directly under the subway line.

Window screens are easy to change. Screens are available in hardware nearby towns, cities. It is not a major problem.

We just had thje City contractor do thousands of square feet throughout Flatbush and Midwood and I was told we’d be billed $10.08 per square foot. By letting the City do it you don’t need to apply for a permit or risk the City inspectors finding the new sidewalk violations.

see what bob marvin says. same story here. letting the city do it took all of the hassle away and I cannot say we would have saved any money elsewhere. if I had to do it again, I would let the city do it. also, it is a year so far and still no bill. they will not give you another violation, they will just give you some time and if you don’t do it, they will send you a letter telling you they are going to do it.

When virtually my whole block got these summonses about 15 years ago we determined that it was cheaper to let the City do the repair. The City contractor did a decent job and we weren’t actually billed for over a year.
