Alarm system

We are pricing out alarm systems ( ADT, Slomin’s etc..) and they all seem to be close in price. Our goal is to be able to leave on vacation for a couple of weeks and feel secure about leaving. I don’t think we are going to be able to afford a video system. Does anyome have any recomendatrions’ on alarm systems ? Thanks in advance

Personally, I use Symetrix. I’m very happy with it!   You could make a video system using a camera, a laptop and the right software (which you can get for free online). Look up the process on Google if you’re interested.

We installed frontpoint DIY system 1 year ago. Very easy to set up and seems to work well and monitor service is qucik to call on force alarm. Works great with smartphone to arm/disarm and see when doors/windows were opened and closed. Does the job. Wouldn’t go for an old school hard wired system today.

The main reason to have an alarm system is to reduce your insurance bill, and to wake you up when someone is in your house in the middle of the night.  The response time by NYPD to private alarm calls is REALLY slow.  If you are away, the thieves will be long gone before the cops  show up.

I love Alarms R Us also. Fantastic service. RedRobin, if the alarm goes off while you’re away, and you verify you’re not in the house, THEY CALL THE POLICE. That is the whole point.

I used alarm.com, the local rep was responsive, install was smooth, Online and app access is great.

We used Alarms R Us: http://www.alarmsrus.com/. It’s a terrible name, but it’s a family-owned business and they did a great job. As for going away, with most of these companies, you’ll get a call if your alarm sounds. What you do if that happens and you’re miles away is another story, and I’d ask the alarm company for their advice. Also many homeowner insurance policies will give you a discount if you have an alarm system. You might also consider putting some lights on timers when you go away so it appears as though someone is home.

We’ve been very happy with Frontpoint Security. It’s a DIY installation, and very easy to set up. $40 / month and you can arm / disarm from your smartphone. You can set any type of sensor anywhere in your house. We have them on our garden level all the way to the roof hatch (4 story building). Really beats those old security companies who appear to be dinosaurs. All this is monitored by a 24 x 7 service, and you get alerts / texts if any alarm is triggered (you can configure things any whay you want). Really great service.
