According to the DOB, this renovation at 396 Dean has been going on since 2008, but it still doesn’t look very close to being finished. The permit was for a gut rehabilitation and the addition of a fourth floor, keeping it as a two-family building. Unless they are just placeholders, the choice of doors suggests that this design may not end up being the prettiest on the block. GMAP DOB

  1. I live directly to the right of the purple house. It is a really nice looking place, too bad it’s stuck next to that ugly renovation. Did they really have to make the construction barriers that green color?

I’ve been on the block since September 2008 and the look of this property hasn’t changed much from what you see now.

  2. I love that purple.

As for the house under construction, don’t you put in the walls before you put in the doors and windows? Or is it just me?

  3. In addition to the purple house, there’s a charming sky blue frame house right around here as well. This block is nice in that the house are of variesd styles with a couple of smallish apartment buildings thrown in as well.

AS for this new build, well, doors are the least of the problems. They are relatively inexpensive to replace. It’s the permanenence of the division into a double duplex (see the apparent julietification of the upper various floors, too) that would be more challenging to a buyer with dreams (however distant) of eventually triplexing or taking over the entire house.

Strangely, not a peep from any poster about being close to AY.
