As Streetsblog noticed last Friday, construction has begun on the pedestrian improvements coming to Grand Army Plaza. At present, a pedestrian plaza is going in at the north end of GAP, near the Richard Meier building. Construction of the islands should run through July; work on the new bike and pedestrian features on the southern side is scheduled to begin in August. You can see the whole construction plan here (PDF).
