W'burg's Walter Foods Expands to Fort Greene
Pretty big news for Dekalb Avenue: Brooklyn Based reports that, since Rice left 166 Dekalb, Williamsburg restaurant Walter Foods has put its name on the new lease. The plan is to open in May and serve lighter fare than the original spot, which serves “chops and seafood.” What do you say, Fort Greene residents…good news…

“In fact, before he joined the Dean Street team, he spent four months cooking at Roman’s, the Fort Greene restaurant Smith calls his favorite place to eat.”

nate smith loves romans because he used to work there
I had something like a branzino at Roman’s – the fish itself was cooked well, but the garnish was way too salty.
I sincerely hope Walter Foods is able to satisfy the discerning palettes of Ft. Greene.
And God yes- no more “small plates.” That trend needs to die.
Sam Sifton is a journalist, not a chef.
Big difference.
Why is there such a love/hate divide between so many of these new joints in FG? Roman’s is amazing/awful; General Greene is great/terrible. It is just a neighborhood where trendy restaurants go to die? I’m concerned. Even Walter Foods is a bit divisive.
Also, we need some mid-price stuff in the hood these days. I’d like my delivery to be under $20 including tip. I feel like most places are too expensive to order in.
“I usually think it’s a good sign when a place is a destination for a big-time chef. ”
Jesus could say Romans was good and I wouldn’t care. It was by far one of the most disappointing, gross meals I’ve ever had. And I really, really wanted to like the place. I don’t seem to be the only one, but I hope they’ve improved things.
I mean, Sam Sifton LOVES Fatty Cue, does that mean your opinion that is sucks isn’t valid?
