It’s possible I missed something, wasder. My attention span is minimal when it comes to TV.
Overall I did like it. Considering the condition it was in when it started, it came a long way. The top floor rental is REALLY nice for a rental it seemed to me. They spoke about having a “5 year plan” when they then plan to take over that apartment and combine it with their duplex. The top floor kitchen would become their new laundry room, I believe. Overall it came out really beautifully (not necessarily my style) but great.
Watching the woodwork get refinished was the most interesting part to me…there was a ton of it in the house, and the guy they had refinishing it is a master of his art. Incredible.
The expanse of lawn in the backyard was really impressive also. The lot looked especially deep.
I wonder why they are selling that light fixture in the forum.
I somehow managed to miss the whole brooklyn season despite wanting to see it and attempting to tivo it. My cable box could never find the brooklyn ones. I hope (and assume they will) repeat it. Strange they wouldn’t have featured every floor of the house on the last show.
11217–did you dig the renovation overall?
Did you see that this past weekend was the finale for the Brooklyn This Old House…? I managed to catch it…love the show, love the BK project.
I wish the finale was an hour though…I wanted MORE!!!
They didn’t show us the garden rental…did they? I had seen it in a previous episode, but I was craving to see every inch of the house on the final show.
dave, just saw your note on the toh family posting in the forum — good catch! you’re definitely right. looks like they have been around for a while, which isn’t surprising. i agree it would be interesting to hear about their experiences with the show.
Vinca,
You rule.
Love your posts, and I’ve noticed you always are first to give advice in the Forum if you can…which is admirable. You seem like a wealth of knowledge.
Absolutely truce, Rob. I enjoy most your input and was, and remain, quite a vocal supporter of keeping the OT. I rarely write a long opinion here because I detest the flame wars, and because I don’t have time, energy or addiction to follow a thread daylong or jump from thread to thread to see where else the issue’s been raised and reraised. However, on the issue of flame wars: Bxgrl, get a clue—I know you perceive attacks from behind every bush, but there was no attack on wishinone, I doubt s/he needs you as defender, and I repeated the quote to point out the irony.
quote:
You mean the word habitué made you pass out, Rob? What a delicate flower. Would you have have read past if I’d used “usual suspect”? I suspect you’re short on a reply, and so pretend to dismiss it as if meaningless.
not at all. you made some valid points fer sure. (in face i did read it). it just comes across as pretentious and long winded. and if anyone comes across as a delicate flower it would be you. im more of a rag weed. and honestly this is dumb i dont like arguing with people. truce?
*rob*
The thing is, when PS Parents was less moderated, it was funnier because extreme views got posted, questioned and mocked. Now it is kind of boring and smug. I suppose that makes it a “safe place” and “useful”… but the joy is gone. For me.
I canceled my membership — I mean, I don’t live there anyways, and maybe if they reduce their readership they won’t need to pay mods.
And Vinca, I agreed with you right up until that breastfeeding comment: are you saying my mother had to breastfeed me? And have you seen the latest research on carriages? Haven’t you heard of babywearing? You know, Park Slope Parents can give you the names of some lovely instructors if you’re having trouble choosing the right carrier.
Heh.
Thanks everyone. One thing I do appreciate about digital photography is the portability and instantaneousness of it. I was walking down Fulton just before sunset on Sunday and loving all of the tiny little details that I normally walk right past. Without my little snappy digital in my pocket I would have missed some things so that aspect of digital photography I do approve of.
I re PS Kids listserve, I am a member of FG Kids and there are just as high a percentage of uptight, controlling freakazoids there. We might look a little judgmental here at brownstoner but I doubt we rank anywhere near the top of that list. I think we are actually pretty diverse in terms of ages, political leanings, thoughts about design and architecture etc.
