vinca- I think you are now certifiable. I tried to be reasonable and talk you – I asked you a question and you can’t seem to handle it. Go chill, take some meds. You’re the one who elevated what I asked into accusing me of starting a flame war. And kindly don’t try to do a psychological profile on me- at least until you can be a little more self-aware.
z- but doesn’t that leave the parlor floor and the one above for the owners? Aren’t those usually the nicest floors with the most detail?
In fact, Bxgrl, you DIDN’T reply to what I posted. What you did, and what you do with great frequency, is “defend” someone—anyone—as a means of casting aspersions on another poster. Then you ice the cake by describing the alleged “transgressor” as shrill, hypersensitive, touchy, etc., in an attempt to sucker people into a debate about character which has nothing to do with the topic at hand. You amplify your “defense” by bringing your fabrications to other unknown threads. Good luck with that.
i thought the TOH series on the brownstone was fascinating. the renovation quality seemed to be top-notch. i wasn’t a huge fan of the floorplans, though. putting rental units on the top and bottom of the house results in lots of wasted space for common areas, not to mention a big spiral staircase taking up room right in the middle of the owner’s duplex. also didn’t really like the closed-off rear kitchen in the duplex. but that’s a matter of taste and planning (sounds like they are looking ahead 5 years to changing the layout). overall it seems they did a great job.
Dear Vinca,
I will try to answer your questions directly, I suppose because it is a more interesting task than those awaiting me at my job:
“Of course there are people with extreme points of view on the list serve, people whom I wouldn’t want to stand behind in line for coffee, let alone take their parenting advice.†You mean this board is devoid of people like that?
[wishinone: no, and i never said or implied that. in fact, i would rather not stand in line behind you given what a hot head you have.]
You mean the singles and parents on B’stoner are somehow less opinionated, more involved (but in a good kind of way), more charitable and altruistic, less entitled and/or self-absorbed?
[wishinone: no, i never said or implied that. I think there are plenty of nutjobs on this board as well. One person’s nutjob is another person’s savior. To each their own.]
You mean that before PS Parents came into existence the streets of Brooklyn, especially the working class neighborhoods, weren’t filled with swarms of parents with swarms of children and carriages? (If that’s your position, than you know very little about 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation families that populated the borough not even 50 years ago, let alone before that.)
[wishinone: no, I never said or implied that. I am a bit confused and I have no idea where your anger is coming from. I’ve lived here since 2002, have friends who were raised here, friends who bought brownstones here in the 60s, and friends who moved in just a few weeks ago. They are all members of PSP and I consider them all to be decent people.]
Did your mothers not breast-feed you or push you in carriages?
[wishinone: sure, i was pushed in a carriage and nursed. Not sure how it applies to my feeling that there are extreme opinions everywhere, including PSP, including Brownstoner, including those standing in front of me in line for coffee. My frustration (and the POINT of my posting earlier) is with the NY Post’s reporting of a sliver of drama in the long life of a list serve that comprises a much more complex demographic than what is often reported and ridiculed on these and other boards.
I hope you are able to relax and go on with your day.
really, vinca. It wasn’t my diatribe at 10:42 and all I did was ask a question of you, without flaming you. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised- its not the first time you’ve been shrill and hypersensitive. Did you or did you not quote wishinone in your second paragraph and end it with the words ” Really, I advise a step back before taking pride in making declarations so foolish.”
I’m sure wishinone doesn’t need anyone to defend them but this is a public blog and if you don’t want anyone responding to things you say, don’t post here. But don’t accuse me of starting a flame war because you’re overly sensitive and touchy.
Typically, TOH renovations are very expensive. A lot of the time and materials do get doanted for which the owners have to declare it on their income taxes.
You’re right about the contractors. they all seemed to be the highest calibre…the plaster guy, the guy who did all the wood refinishing. These are long, slow, expensive jobs.
The reno must have cost an arm and a leg. Overall, I think they did an excellent job.
Does anyone have any insight into how it was financed? I.e., did the owners pay for everything (very doubtful), or would they have paid for half and the show and freebies from the renovators covered the rest, or what? Maybe they’re selling off some of the beautiful pieces we saw after receiving the final bill! With all the contractors / designers involved and work done, it couldn’t have been cheap. Btw, the family came across as very tight knit and nice, in my opinion.
Man I need to work on my lawn. I have a 60 foot deep mudpit right now and a kid who is dying to get out there….
