Haven’t been inside in a while, but doesn’t this place look better in red?
Five Guys Burgers in Park Slope: Hot or Not?
Says one Chowhound: “I was walking past the corner of 7th Ave and 6th street (where that ugly Bank of America is going in) and I saw a work permit on the space next door (the old D’Agostino’s) that says a Five Guys is going in. Yea!”
But another replies: “Or is it another nail in the coffin for the charm of Park Slope?”
Opening and Closing Report
According to Eater, Jesse’s Brooklyn Kitchen will be closing shop on Smith Street, and Manhattan’s Cheyenne Diner will reopen in Red Hook, but Red Hook’s 360 is officially gone for good.
After the jump: Luz turns out the lights for Earth Day (and today), bargains at Barrio, and Andrea Strong’s move to Brooklyn…
Luz, Sin Luz
177 Vanderbilt Avenue, Fort Greene
“On April 22 and 23 we will be selecting, measuring and combining organic and sustainable products to produce a meal without electric power. We will be using all natural, organic and grass fed products from local farms and markets. We will also be serving organic beer and wine. There will be no electricity, no telephones, no gas, no credit card machines, no computers, and no heat lamps.” [Green Brooklyn]
Barrio’s Opening Bargain
210 Seventh Avenue (at Third Street), Park Slope; (718) 965-4000
“Spencer Rothschild opened this Mexican place in his own neighborhood on Monday. There will be a 15 percent discount through April 30.” [NY Times]
Andrea Strong Moves to Brooklyn, Reviews the Grocery, Admires the Locals
288 Smith Street, Carroll Gardens; (718) 596-3335
“While three appetizers were a lot, we couldn’t resist a grilled calamari, so we didn’t. We shared it as a mid-course. Thin, wonderfully chewy and charred ringlets are tossed with sweet and hot long peppers, roasted and pickled cauliflower, and giant cannellini beans (so lustrous they almost looked like little poached eggs) from Rancho Gordo in a dill and tarragon dressing… The room was now filled, and Diana was looking around, smiling. ‘Brooklyn people are so cute,’ she said, sweeping a piece of soft crusty bread through the last of the dill dressing.” [The Strong Buzz]
Hey Biff try Carriage Inn on 7th Ave. Look out for Doug!
Park Slope has charm?
1:42, thanks for the suggestions. It’s much appreciated. I’ll check them out.
not surprised about Jesse’s either. Took forever to open and then never knew what they served even or even if they were open.
Seemed to me – probably owned by some rich person doing this as a hobby and not really knowing what run the business.
Become Buzzer? What a lame food blog.
Biff. Try Union Hall and Great Lakes.
Its also a terrible paint job. If you look at the upper lip of Angry Wades, they entirely missed that area. There’s this awful white stripe of non-paintedness that you see when you walk down Smith towards the smoking beer patrons.
Nothing screams -LOSER- more than the crowd that smoke outside of Angry Wades. The worst of the worst.
Can anyone suggest a couple of happening bars in Park Slope on a Wednesday night? I’m thinking of having a JD and Coke (or three) in the area tonight.
