“Cobble, I, arkady, MM and quite a few others that you know are in “creative” fields, we most certainly do not come from money and I assure you, we are not vapid.”
You should all hear yourselves after a few drinks at one of the get-togethers!!! 🙂
Rob, that’s nonsense. First of all, you wouldn’t have had a job in a gallery if someone wasn’t exploring their inner self. That’s what art is, an expression of yourself. Most artists are NOT trust fund babies, that’s a myth. Most artists, and I know quite a few, support themselves in all kinds of jobs so they can do their art in the evenings, on weekends, whatever. The small minority who have trust funds have totally skewed the perception.
AND, and I feel this one quite personally, if only monied people went into creative fields, we wouldn’t have any creative fields. Creativity does not come from the bank account, it comes from the soul.
rob- you should really consider the things you say. Cobble, I, arkady, MM and quite a few others that you know are in “creative” fields, we most certainly do not come from money and I assure you, we are not vapid. And I can also tell you, it’s hard work.
its a $2000 a month apartment which also includes the office space (tax deductible)…hardly a high rent.
But you rightly bring up the point that much easier to be entrpreneur when there is money in the family and much harder for those from lower economic background to do anything other than sell their labor to capitalist class.
and cue the few people who come in and claim what i said isnt true… of COURSE there will be a few outliers. cherry picking a few examples here and there doesnt cut it

and people would always say, unless you come from money, don’t bother majoring in or going into the creative fields.
it’s true.

Is there something about artsier people that provoke some inner envy among the more conventional?
yes. i used to work at a gallery for a few years part time and the whole art world made me BARF. it seriously did reek of trust fund city. of course, it’s envy, and i wish i had a trust fund, but whatever. i guess some people are envious of people who can sit around in a giant loft all day painting and playing and exploring their inner (usually vapid) selves.

I’m with pete. And realistically speaking, is it our business where their money is coming from? The article is about their apartment.
Is there something about artsier people that provoke some inner envy among the more conventional?

OK, that was WAY too heavy for 9:34 in the morning.
