There is now 52% more low altitude plane traffic over Park Slope, according to the FHA. The Brooklyn Paper reports that this traffic is the result of new airspace design patterns implemented in 2007 that bring planes headed for LaGuardia through a corridor from Bay Ridge, over Park Slope to the Long Island Expressway. Helicopters are also directed over Park Slope and Prospect Park, as per information gathered through the Freedom of Information Act by an irate Park Slope resident, who is also a pilot. The new traffic patterns are meant to alleviate congestion at LGA, and other local airports. For some residents, according to the article, the noise is unbearable. What say you Park Slopers?

g10, there are fools on you-tube who believe that is a “doctored” video.

omg, gem! That made my hair stand on end!
oh brother
first off I am fascinated by the plane patterns that fly right over our apartment – we watch them often at night and see when they are circling or waiting for clearance and they all bunch up and we freak out b/c we think “uh,oh – that one is coming in really low”
yeah, these fools should leave in Jackson Hts near Ditmars Blvd and really experience how low and loud those planes are
such whiners
check out this link of a really close plane -SFW!

> there was a group of people from PS who wanted to take action- not just 2.
Yep, I remember that.
Speaking of, the story has made it to the Park Slope Parents site:

hmm i actually so vaguely remember that bxgirl.. it was kind of absurd the kind of action they wanted to take.. like rerouting flights or something right or knitting cozies to fit over the planes engines?
*rob*
There was thread on this subject sometime last year and it seems there was a group of people from PS who wanted to take action- not just 2. Anyone else remember that?
Six words I never thought I’d write: I agree with fsrq and rob. (I.e., funny to find the two of you in agreement.) But as much as the Slope has its excesses, the minute anyone opens their mouth and complains about anything, they become a poster child for the neighborhood. Like when one person complained about the restaurant going across teh street from PS 107. Everyone jumped to the conclusion that Park Slope parents do not want restaurants with alcohol near elementary schools.
Vauxhall, in D.C., now that’s noisy. Planes are much lower. Me, I’ll take planes high overhead instead of trucks barreling over speed bumps any day.
linkinplace and arkady I agree – we are in CG and I sometimes feel that a helicopter is either letting people off on our roof or chasing a perp, both give me the nervous poos.
And now our dog likes to sight follow the airplanes over PS.
