There is now 52% more low altitude plane traffic over Park Slope, according to the FHA. The Brooklyn Paper reports that this traffic is the result of new airspace design patterns implemented in 2007 that bring planes headed for LaGuardia through a corridor from Bay Ridge, over Park Slope to the Long Island Expressway. Helicopters are also directed over Park Slope and Prospect Park, as per information gathered through the Freedom of Information Act by an irate Park Slope resident, who is also a pilot. The new traffic patterns are meant to alleviate congestion at LGA, and other local airports. For some residents, according to the article, the noise is unbearable. What say you Park Slopers?

  1. *rob* – sorry ’bout that… I was actually aiming for a 16-year-old tone, so I took 13-year-old as a slight.

seriously, the whole PS-bashing business is tired.

and like it or not, if you actually read the article, you’ll understand that focusing the ‘fan’ flight pattern into a narrow corridor really should have an impact on the neighborhoods below.

so by all means, the haters should continue to attack the messenger because he’s from PS – it’s good training for a career as a GOP strategist!

  2. its funny becuase when I lived in my house in south slope, occasionally at like 4am you would here NYPD helicopters roaming around above and I would get totally pissed, because it was loud but then I would totally freak myself out thinking omg omg there’s probably some escaped convict hiding out in our backyards and he’s going to break in any any second
    oy!

  3. bxgrl: read brownstoner’s intro to the article:

“Helicopters are also directed over Park Slope and Prospect Park, as per information gathered through the Freedom of Information Act by an irate Park Slope resident, who is also a pilot.”

butterfly & lechacal: thanks for the scolding!

  4. I’m sure most those in Park Slope are thinking parkedslope and his 20 exclamation points aren’t helping them in any way. Neither does it help them to give Park Slope a reputation as having bad airplane noise when that’s not really true.
