The Planes, the Pain!

There is now 52% more low altitude plane traffic over Park Slope, according to the FHA. The Brooklyn Paper reports that this traffic is the result of new airspace design patterns implemented in 2007 that bring planes headed for LaGuardia through a corridor from Bay Ridge, over Park Slope to the Long Island Expressway. Helicopters are also directed over Park Slope and Prospect Park, as per information gathered through the Freedom of Information Act by an irate Park Slope resident, who is also a pilot. The new traffic patterns are meant to alleviate congestion at LGA, and other local airports. For some residents, according to the article, the noise is unbearable. What say you Park Slopers?
Noise Over Slope Was Not All In Your Head [Brooklyn Paper]

parkedslope- the article is referring to planes, not helicopters. A number of people also complain about helicopters- they’re horribly noisy. But the reference is to planes and flight paths. That may not bother you but it does upset some of your neighbors, who have tried to have the flights rerouted over another neighborhood.
g10, I know I said there are fools on you-tube…implying I’m not one of them!
I loved when manny came into the house and after a bad day went to bar and poured himseld a drink(coke).
I flew out of Hong kong in the 80s when the airport was in middle of city and thru my window you could see people working at their desks, invigorating/terrifying @ same time.
First off, all you Park Slope-bashers can suck it!!!!!
Jealous much?
Anyway, on multiple occasions, I’ve had clusters of local-tv helicopters hovering about 500 feet above my center slope, top-floor apartment at 6am. Trust me, it’s enough to wake the dead. Apparently, they like the view of the sun rising over lower Manhattan – a great shot for their lame-o, brain-dead morning ‘news’ broadcasts…
Turns out, these clowns regularly violate FAA flight rules – but I suppose those of us in PS [and PH, Flatbush, etc] deserve it because of our overpriced houses/ bratty kids / stroller moms, etc. Problem is, those low flights don’t allow for any margin of error in-case something goes wrong:

As for the airline traffic to LGA, it’s never bothered me a bit. So once again, all you haters can suck it!!!!
But Delpp – those photos are real

g10, loved modern family on wednesday.
The noise from the planes is fine, I barely notice it either in the park or in Park Slope and I’m in both every single day in Spring or Summer. The noise from the MTA buses are way way way more loud and awful. These people should direct their efforts towards forcing the MTA to actually perform maintenance on the brakes on the buses. The worst thing about these NIMBY’s is the idea LaGuardia air control is thinking about neighborhoods when they plot out the paths for air traffic. They’re doing whatever they need to do to SAVE LIVES. Is a jet crashing into your brownstone a better scenario? These kinds of people basically confirm every stereotype there is about the entitled Park Slope yuppie.
“I grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, and we were also in the flight path but it seemed louder. Maybe my young ears were more sensitive.”
Plane engines today are much, much quieter than they used to be. Every once in a while an old DC9 or something will fly by, and it’s really startling.
I remember visiting my grandmother, who lived on the sixth floor of a building in Flushing. My memory is that the planes were pretty much at eye level from her windows, and the noise was defeaning.
The Concorde flights out of JFK were serioudly loud.
Delepp – idk – the link I posted actually had the sea below moving in huge waves as the plane approached
Delepp – r u kidding
that video looks incredibly real! – hahahaha
lemme check the link
Bxgrl – they are all over youtube, people posting plane landings
