There is now 52% more low altitude plane traffic over Park Slope, according to the FHA. The Brooklyn Paper reports that this traffic is the result of new airspace design patterns implemented in 2007 that bring planes headed for LaGuardia through a corridor from Bay Ridge, over Park Slope to the Long Island Expressway. Helicopters are also directed over Park Slope and Prospect Park, as per information gathered through the Freedom of Information Act by an irate Park Slope resident, who is also a pilot. The new traffic patterns are meant to alleviate congestion at LGA, and other local airports. For some residents, according to the article, the noise is unbearable. What say you Park Slopers?
Noise Over Slope Was Not All In Your Head [Brooklyn Paper]

I havent noticed any difference – pre-07 a plane flew over approximately 1x per minute, post-’07 they fly over 1x per minute – can it be annoying…yes….does anyone have a legitimate complaint – absolutely not – planes have flown over PS when you moved here – you were warned.
What the hell is a digital converter airwave box?
Well after they pass over Park Slope they pass even lower over Clinton Hill and then many other neighborhoods so its funny that its Park Slopers getting all up in arms.
whaaat?

rob, these complainers are the same nutjobs that have to cover their ears on the subway platform when a train comes by. They really look pathetic.
other than the tv reception farting, i sorta like the sounds of planes overhead. these people saying the noise is “unbearable” seriously need to get their heads check. they mayb be afflicted with that disease that causes all your senses to be hyperactive and way too accute. i do sometimes worry that another plane will crash into park slope like it did in the last century.

I couldn’t tell. The years of construction noise helped drown out the sound of the frequent planes (every 5 minutes or so). The flight path comes right over the SSlope/Prospect Park.
They don’t fly over Bed Stuy. They are afraid to.
OMG YES! IM NOT A COMPLAINER, but because i dont have cable in my room i use a digital converter airwave box.. everytime a plane flies over the reception starts farting. it doesnt happen often enough where it’s THAT annoying, but i swear it always happens at one of THE pivitol moment of whatever tv show im watching!!!
*searches the internet cuz i bet somewhere out there is a whiney blog of park slopers who want the planes to be rerouted to another neighborhood because of this*
*rob*
flying into laguardia sunday afternoon, I was able to clearly pick out all the buildings in my neighborhood.
But I only really hear planes when cloud cover is thick and they come in really low. Of course, I’m maybe .5 mile west of Park Slope.
