There is now 52% more low altitude plane traffic over Park Slope, according to the FHA. The Brooklyn Paper reports that this traffic is the result of new airspace design patterns implemented in 2007 that bring planes headed for LaGuardia through a corridor from Bay Ridge, over Park Slope to the Long Island Expressway. Helicopters are also directed over Park Slope and Prospect Park, as per information gathered through the Freedom of Information Act by an irate Park Slope resident, who is also a pilot. The new traffic patterns are meant to alleviate congestion at LGA, and other local airports. For some residents, according to the article, the noise is unbearable. What say you Park Slopers?

maybe some neighborhoods the planes fly over dont complain about it cuz the planes are masked by the sounds of constant gunshots!?! hmmmm?

@ hannible: HAHAHAHAHA. Paris is noisy too.
In South Slope I notice it, but it doesn’t bother me. White noise. Are there pollution concerns with being under a heavy flight path? I grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, and we were also in the flight path but it seemed louder. Maybe my young ears were more sensitive.
I notice the planes but am not bothered by them– actually in the summer I love sitting outside and watching them fly overhead. (I’ve never had a problem with TV or other reception as a result.) Helecopters are a different story– it’s amazing how loud a hovering copter can be. I don’t think that’s a problem isolated to Park Slope, though. Brooklyn Heights probably has it much worse.
I don’t mind the planes but the helicopters sometimes bother me because I’m afraid it means some disaster is being dealt with.
Oh my goodness my cat can no longer sleep. It is under severe stress! What did you people think you were buying when you bought in Brooklyn? A Villa in Paris? Just because you overpaid for your homes does not mean we as taxpayes have to accomodate your every desire.
whine, whine park slope. planes dont dive down above park slope and then miraculously hit silent mode over more neighborhoods. we’re directly under the flight pattern up here in prospect heights, too. nice to sit on the roof with a glass of wine counting the landings coming in at rush hour.
“rob, these complainers are the same nutjobs that have to cover their ears on the subway platform when a train comes by. They really look pathetic.”
haha true true
