The buzz last month about a banh mi joint opening on 5th Avenue between 5th and 6th streets was on the money. On Friday, a place called Home S opened in the storefront next to Willie’s Dawgs. All banh mi (classic, pork chop, chicken, etc.) cost $6, and bubble teas start at $3.75. There’s no pho on the menu, but a guy working there said there’s a possibility it might eventually show up.

If mine is weird, yours is freakin’ batshit crazy then. ”

We’ll revisit the debate (banh mi vs. pizza) in five years.

  2. I don’t think Banh Mi is a fad anymore than pizza is.

The reason Soho can charge a dollar less than Park Slope is because they have more customers and more foot traffic. Don’t begrudge this business in Park Slope because they decided to open on a less busy street than Broadway. Lord, they’re just trying to make a business work and apparently have decided that 6 bucks will hopefully do the trick.

There is another Bahn Mi place opening on 5th and President Street, right next door to Matter (an amazing store, if you’ve never been).

    I plan to try both.

Banh Mi is a silly fad…

yeah. food fads are kinda annoying cuz everyone starts clamoring for places to open, then you have a giant glut of mediocre places all competing with each other.

bubble tea is kinda icky.. i had it a few years ago and when i ate one of the little balls i nearly gagged. it had the consistency of a shrunken gonad. ick
