A reader wrote in to inform us that she returned from vacation last week to find that, while she was gone, the Chinese restaurant at 1106 8th Avenue at 11th Street in the South Slope transformed into something called Yummy Taco! Does anyone know if this is straight-up Mexican or one of the Mexican-Chinese hybrids that has been increasing in popularity? GMAP

  1. the “flag ship” store on flatbush is a hoot, they were once [9 years ago] passing off wattery ketchup as salsa sauce for a day cause they ran out… i never went back, but always tell non-new yorkers about the mexican/chinese/sushi joints in brooklyn… [including the place on newkirk ave with all 3 on the sign]

  2. Taco Poblano on Broadway between Throop and Stuyvesant is really authentic. Try the barbacoa..its real goat!!!! Also the burittos lengua are good. Very, very cheap with a bar attached on the side.

Unless you like authentic Mexican soupy guacamole don’t order the guac.
