Streetlevel: Yummy Taco Opens in South Slope
A reader wrote in to inform us that she returned from vacation last week to find that, while she was gone, the Chinese restaurant at 1106 8th Avenue at 11th Street in the South Slope transformed into something called Yummy Taco! Does anyone know if this is straight-up Mexican or one of the Mexican-Chinese hybrids…

Yummy Taco on Flatbush is great. I’m super ultra bummed that the South Slope location doesn’t have bean curd. Bean curd burritos are the only thing I order. Why be a ChinaMex joint if you don’t have bean curd?!?!
If this is related to the one on Flatbush – avoid!
blech. dirty. filthy. ruined that entire building.
The old awning said, “The Fresh Tortilla As Taco Tex-Mexican Restaurant”
The left that awning up for way too long before replacing it. Was torn, covered in soot. Had remnants of “grand opening” flags from about 8 years earlier. Sadly, the new sign isn’t worded nearly as well.
Oh for crying out loud go to any Mexican place in Bushwick, it’s authentic and good.
You guys have it wrong, you have to think of Yummy Taco as Asian Fusion.
The Yummy Taco on Church Ave. in Kensington is just fine, but I don’t go out of my way for it.
My current fave regular city-slice pizza (ya know… sauce out of can, mozz out of bag) is Georgio’s. It’s near Wall Street and made by Mexicans.
What’s funny is I was going to correct BrooklynRooster who was saying new yummy taco’s flagship is bergen and flatbush, becuase I thought it was bergen and park place, but turns out it’s new HAPPY taco there. Not new yummy. New happy taco’s a different chinese mexican chain, find it surprisingly ok, especially for the price.
The worst mexican food i’ve had in NYC was at the California Tacqueria on Court St, i’m pretty sure the staff is Mexican…
there are a plethora of extremely low quality establishments out there. however, there are good places out there.
I like the peking duck house in chinatown and Tang Pavilion in Midtown.
*rob* – your last post was so lame. have a Chinese friend or a knowledgeable non-Chinese friend take you out to Flushing or Brooklyn or Manhattan Chinatown for authetnic Chinese food. Some of the restaurants cook Hong-Kong style, my personal favorite. You have not been eating authentic Chinese food, you are eating what Chinese people think stupid white/black/orange people would like. Explore a little – sheesh!
