Signage has gone up indicating that a Bank of America is opening on the northeast corner of Bergen and Flatbush, across the street from the old Royal Video location that may also become a bank branch. The big bank influx makes us wonder whether end times are near for that shady looking check-cashing place at 230 Flatbush. Anyhow, are readers on the Prospect Height-Slope border happy about the beefed-up ATM presence or is it just a snooze? GMAP

  1. “The cop killing some months back took place right at the other end of the block.Bergen and Flatbush.Right in the shadow of the 78th .”

No, it took place on Sixth and St. Marks, at least 3-4 blocks away and across Flatbush Avenue from here. Definitely not “at the other end of the block.” Get your facts straight.

  2. “Just because some crime stats are hidden in police blotters in a local paper it does not mean that the area is crime free.”

This corner is as close to crime free as it gets. Cops are constantly in and out of Bergen Bagels, which is RIGHT NEXT DOOR. Cops park their cars and police vans directly across the (narrow) street. A crook is taking a big chance trying to pull off a mugging here, and if they cops caught him in the shadow their precinct trying to pul off a mugging, I’d be willing to wager they wouldn’t be nice about it.

  3. Muggings seem unlikely since that location pictured is literally steps from the police station. But maybe someone will reply,”You think muggings don’t happen in front of the police station? Move back to the suburbs! Blah blah blah!”
