Streetlevel: Cupcakes and Coffee for 7th Avenue
A new sweet shop is moving into the old Firefly space on 7th Avenue. It’s called the King of Cupcakes, and according to their website, they’ll be serving cupcakes, cookies, custom cakes, pies, pastries, bagels, gelato, “and the best damn coffee in Brooklyn.” They also claim that they’ve been serving “fresh baked goods since 1979,”…

Anybody know the backstory on this place? GMAP
A Couple of Closings in The Slope [Brownstoner]
I don’t think there’s a cafe or bakery or any other food establishment in park slope that does not have cupcakes, some are so-so, some are excellent, so nothing new or shocking about cupcakes in the slope. But marketing as a kids place is cool… all I know is the cafes I frequent are a mess after the kids are there. Cute kids and all, but a mess. I hope this place is stocking up on brooms! : )
11217 = hilarious!
quote:
Gem – first there was Edna’s Edibles – but then it caused a fire. They opened a weird card store next, I think.
it was a novelty shop. remember the inflatable pink flamingos? lol
*rob*
11217, seems gun slingers are a dying or retiring breed
No Cousin John and Ladybird are NOT the same as what I hope this place plans to be..
I might as well weight 200 pounds b/c I seriously KNOW MY GOODIES – ha
Jessi – Riiight – oh god that dreadful cardshop – that’s when the show went downhill
Bxgrl – I agree I love the sign – but it doesn’t fit with the style and name “King Of Cupcakes”
Wish they would open a branch in CHN! You Park Slopians get everything! (grump, grump) 🙂
We have a couple of people who are specializing in cupcakes but not a shop. There is a new bakery in the area and they’re good but not extraordinary.
Gem- I loved the sign. Don’t know how they got the name but the kid and the slogan are very fun.
“> This is THE FIRST cupcake shop in Park Slope, not 10th.
That’s how it begins.
Are you now, or have you ever been a cupcakist?!?!?”
I wuv you, Snarky. : )
Ladybird on 8th. But rather expensive, even for, ahem, gourmet cupcakes.
M4L – What happened around here? It’s not my imagination, right? It’s a total snoozefest!!
