A new sweet shop is moving into the old Firefly space on 7th Avenue. It’s called the King of Cupcakes, and according to their website, they’ll be serving cupcakes, cookies, custom cakes, pies, pastries, bagels, gelato, “and the best damn coffee in Brooklyn.” They also claim that they’ve been serving “fresh baked goods since 1979,” and it seems that their original shop is located inside a pizzeria in Chelsea. Anybody know the backstory on this place? GMAP

  1. No I agree with 11217 – this place if good will be a great addition to the nabe
PS as I said a million times before is SATURATED with cafes/bakeries that sell “goodies” as an after thought.
Sometimes you just want to go some place that focuses purely on sweets.

Also – this place will do well IF IT STAYS OPEN LATE! til 11pm on weekdays and 12am weekends!

  2. I think this place will clean up!!! – if the products are good and service is quick and friendly then this place will succeed!

sorry not everyone wants to eat a dried ol’ tart from some “patisserie”
    haaaaaa

  3. To the frownstoners who think cupcakes are “ovah” I suppose you haven’t walked by Magnolia bakery on any given night when there’s a line out the door.

Guess the rest of NYC hasn’t gotten your memo on what’s cool and not anymore.

What’s next from the brownstoner crowd for 2011?

    Cheese.

    It’s so “ovah”

  4. Cupcakes are so ovah, but lesloaf has a very good point. MAKING 30 cupcakes is also difficult, since I only have capacity to cook 24 at a time. Very price insensitive service, that would be.
