Work was humming along yesterday on two future adjoining Cortelyou Road spots, a Middle Eastern market and a wine bar. According to Ditmas Park Blog, the wine bar will be called Castello Plan. Both businesses are being opened by an owner of Mimi’s Hummus, says the Voice. GMAP

  1. DitmasSnark — is Picket Fence crappy? I’ve never eaten there either because I’ve been told it’s not worth it. But they have a nice back garden.

I went to Visions once. It was pretty decent, though I wouldn’t call it cheap. What are the purple yam’s prices like (compared to portions) — that’s a nice addition, though I don’t know if it would make it to a “weekly” type thing for me. I’ve gotta be in the mood for various asian cuisines.

Speaking of… are ANY of the chinese restaurants on Cortelyou edible? I’ve never tried them and always eat chinese elsewhere. They all seem scary to me… but last night I walked by the one at, what, around E 18th (just east of Met Foods). It didn’t seem as ghastly as I remembered it… or maybe I was just hungry.

  2. tybur, email me at carrollgardened at gmail dot com, so I can at least email you when we’re getting together. You don’t have to give up your real identity. Most of us have, in person that is, but not all. Come drink with us as tybur6. It’ll be fun. A lot of us want to meet you.

  3. I was wondering what was going on there. There were working away at a good clip a while back, but things kind of ground to a halt a few weeks back.

A wine bar is all well and good, but what we really need along Cortelyou are some more decent and affordable restaurants.

I love The Farm, for example, but it’s not really “everyday fare” in my book because of the prices. Even Picket Fence is kind of pricey, and their food is ghastly.
