StreetLevel: Cortelyou Market, Wine Bar Coming Along
Work was humming along yesterday on two future adjoining Cortelyou Road spots, a Middle Eastern market and a wine bar. According to Ditmas Park Blog, the wine bar will be called Castello Plan. Both businesses are being opened by an owner of Mimi’s Hummus, says the Voice. GMAP

“As for a Ditmas Park meetup, aren’t you guys afraid of meeting Brownstoner commenters in the flesh? I mean, afraid that someone might have the What along, thrashing in a gunnysack like Gollum?”
‘stoner regulars have been meeting for more than a year, Brenda, and all reports are that a good time is had by all. My first was at Sycamore in July – a small Group of 7 – and I’ve been to quite a few gatherings since then, big and small. The What has yet to appear, although some thought he lurked at the first big gathering. Brenda, did you know you were voted among the regular posters we who gather most want to meet? You, too, should join us at Sycamore. My email address is above if you have any interest ^^^^^
Slap her fake smile and stretch her neck (until she has one)… that might help her Quasimodo hump a bit.
Oh yeah? I’ll have to try the New Hong Kong House… I go to Salahi next door enough.
I have actually reported to 311/DEP the ironically named “New Neighbor Restaurant” next to San Remo’s… the odor that comes out of that nasty hole of a store is so repulsive sometimes. I live down the street and I have to close my windows — imagine living in an apartment above it?!
“reminds me of that horrible excuse of a human, Rachael Ray, and her $40 A Day show”
ROFL, tybur. Someone FORCED me to watch a couple of episodes. One was her in Hawaii, I think. OMG. She could NOT possibly have been more annoying. Don’t you just wanna rip that fake smile off?
> We get by at Farm by ordering the exquisite hamburger
And that burger is exquisite, isn’t it? Yum!
> is Picket Fence crappy?
Great backyard, terrible food. I’ve given them three tries, and they never failed to disappoint. The turkey meatloaf was particularly vile.
> I went to Visions once.
I’ve been there a few times, mostly for brunch and only once for dinner. Dinner isn’t cheap, but the brunch is pretty reasonable. The food has always been good, and the service always really good.
When I am crowned King of Ditmas Park, I will move Visions into Picket Fence’s location, and vice versa.
> are ANY of the chinese restaurants on Cortelyou edible?
I’ve had luck at New Hong Kong House. Heaven knows the place looks dubious, but everything I’ve had there has been quite decent.
Also, talk about cheapskate, the last 3 times I at at the Farm… I didn’t pay! Somehow I have friends that like to repay me for favors with things like delicious hanger steak and trout (or whatever the fish was called). I’m not going to argue.
Brenda — That’s partly what I’m afraid of. Also, your self-description as the “cheapskate restaurant patrons from hell” reminds me of that horrible excuse of a human, Rachael Ray, and her $40 A Day show.
She calculated everything to the penny. “My chimichanga afternoon snack including that delicious Margareta special cost $6.50… add a 15% tip… $7.48 !!
We get by at Farm by ordering the exquisite hamburger and never getting any bev more expensive than beer and splitting desserts. We are, in a word, the cheapskate restaurant patrons from hell, but at least in a recession nobody seems to mind. As for Picket Fence, no more chances for them; over the weekend, we waited 45 min. for 2 salads and a wrap, had to plead for A/C to be turned on because the place was sweltering, and the chicken wrap contained, as Daughter wryly noted, “traces of chicken.” To her credit, the waitress deleted one salad from the bill after we had been obviously forgotten in a time wormhole, but she did it as if we were somehow to blame for our fate. It’s really a shame that cute little place ain’t better.
