StreetLevel: Abilene Folks Opening a Bar on 3rd Avenue
A bar is slated to open next spring in a former karate school space on 3rd Avenue between 13th an 14th streets. The biz is a spin-off of Abilene, the Carroll Gardens bar on Court Street, according to Ideal Properties Group, which brokered the deal. GMAP
” Are you saying that you expect to see more bars/cafes/restaurants/shops to open on the 3rd avenue stretch? ”
I do – although I have no idea what rents are like over there. The industrial buildings give owners much more flexibility with what they can do – Draft barn, for example, could never work in the smallish storefronts on 5th.
4th Ave is going to be great in 3+ years by geography!!!!
1 block from established 5th Ave and 1 block from upcoming 3rd Ave. Booya

2.50 is still way too much for a 40 anywhere!
where pray-tell do you find 40’s for less than 2.50 anywhere in the city? even in jersey in the late 90s in the ghetto i was paying 3-350 for a 40 ounce.
also i do technically like 5th maybe after 10th street or so. not a big fan of the named streets on 5th. the shops just come across as superfluous and phoney to me. how many homemade 10 dollar baby birthday cards does one need!? im looking at YOU skardey kat! (btw their new spaces is absurdly too large for their stock) i think they were better situated in the tinier store across from where they are now, where it actually was quaint and looked like people were in it. tho ive seen people in the newer bigger store it just looks oddly empty.

Ditto, Snark.
I know that stretch so incredibly well, I could practically tell you what’s on almost every block.
why do you guys like it so much?
it’s soo desolate and not a tree on that whole avenue I think
I have to respectfully disagree 11217. I agree a few places have popped up in recent years, I don’t think it will turn into a hot spot like WillyB(actually I don’t want to see that anyway) – I live near there as you know and whenever I drive through it it doesn’t ring “cool” to me.
I could be sooo wrong. Are you saying that you expect to see more bars/cafes/restaurants/shops to open on the 3rd avenue stretch?
“oh yeah and 40 ounces are only 2.50 ”
2.50 is still way too much for a 40 anywhere!
> I’m not gunna lie….I enjoy 5th.
Same here. I must have worn a groove into the sidewalks with all the times I walked up and down it over the past five years.
oh yeah and 40 ounces are only 2.50 on 4th avenue and newports are still under 10 bux. woot!

i like the giant openness of it. i like the urban detritus, the litter, the construction, etc. diff’rent strokes, diff’rent folks. i like the inside of my apartment clean as a whistle, but when i walk outside i want to walk into urban decay.
