Six storefront business on a ten-block stretch of Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights yesterday were busted for selling drugs yesterday in a raid by NYPD; most of the contraband was marijuana with a little cocaine thrown into the mix for good measure. It was an open drug bazaar on Nostrand Avenue, said Councilwoman Letitia James The businesses involved included Chris Restaurant, Press Play CD King, D & Z Variety, though it’s believed that they were all operating independently. At lunch it turned into a veritable pot-luck event, said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. You could go in and get drugs in the food itself or go to the back of the store and pick it up or even buy it over the counter. Eight individuals were arrested, though if last year’s drug bust on Putnam and Grand is any indication, the businesses will probably be back up and running in no time. Absurd.

You look shady, especially at 125th. No big surprise.
not at all, i was on my way to work each time this happened. it was like 8 in the morning and the station was filled with everyone else on their way to work and school, i hardly stood out!! maybe the ladycop had a crush on me!
*rob*
by the way, It seems apparent that those two policemen on the left in the photo (video) don’t do a whole lot of work in walk-up buildings… I don’t think it’s a good thing when I’m fitter than the people charged to protect us. I sure as hell couldn’t chase a criminal very far. And i don’t think these guys could either — well, maybe the Hamburglar!!
Rob, I have no sense of humor about taking, buying or selling drugs. Period. Especially in my neighborhood. We’ve got too many people dying from drug related violence, too many people hurt in drug related crimes. The impression, whether true, false, or exaggerated, that Crown Heights North is not a fine community to live in, or run a business from, because of drugs, is part and parcel of what is keeping us from attracting new jobs, entrepreneurs, and investment here. It has to stop.
donatella, it was probably some horrible marijuana gang that stole your bike.
Kens – the one next two doors down from Sycamore (across from Cinco de Maio)? Or Salahi by the tot lot? I think they both do, but the one further west creeps me out… I don’t like going in there. Salahi happens to have periodic stabbings outside — but for some reason I don’t feel creeped out there (plus it’s closer to my apartment! so, maybe laziness just wins out)
don’t forget butterflies. my bag was searched on MORE than one occassion at the 125th street station in manhattan. wtf?

Thank God for you, Montrose. These people are criminals. Good riddance. And thank you, NYPD. Now find my bike.
That’s classified information, tyburg6. Plus you are a Red Sox fan (ugh). There’d be a steep surcharge.
Yeah – I have to say, if any place in this city should have fully sanctioned weed for sale, it should be our bodegas. The fragrance of the ‘kind bud’ may cover up the smell of the cat piss.
