Six storefront business on a ten-block stretch of Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights yesterday were busted for selling drugs yesterday in a raid by NYPD; most of the contraband was marijuana with a little cocaine thrown into the mix for good measure. It was an open drug bazaar on Nostrand Avenue, said Councilwoman Letitia James The businesses involved included Chris Restaurant, Press Play CD King, D & Z Variety, though it’s believed that they were all operating independently. At lunch it turned into a veritable pot-luck event, said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. You could go in and get drugs in the food itself or go to the back of the store and pick it up or even buy it over the counter. Eight individuals were arrested, though if last year’s drug bust on Putnam and Grand is any indication, the businesses will probably be back up and running in no time. Absurd.

They have been selling weed out of store fronts for years and years.. We use to go to 163 and St Nick when I was in High School or La Botanica on 112th.. You can still buy hash at this Tailor shop on St Marks Street.
Of course I agree with MM. Most of the community has been fighting this kind of thing forever- but less attention gets paid to communities like CHN and Bed-stuy. Letitia James is a godsend. No one fights harder to make sure our voices get heard. Certainly we can’t count on Al Vannished.
benson- I’m shocked you would think I got arrested for drugs. I don’t do drugs. It’s not good for my ..er…escort service. 🙂
just kiddin MM – way too quiet in here!! come on folks!!
Ah, just read that LJ dropped the suit. : D
DH, Has there been any follow up on LJ’s “devastating” “meeting” with the tow hitch? I’m shocked she can get around! : P
DH, I hope your 🙂 meant you were joking, because Lititia James has been busy doing everything but. She’s not a superhero or law enforcement itself. I applaud her for being a busy advocate for her constituents, pressuring law enforcement to get busy in our communities.
Nice to see Leticia James has taken time out of her busy schedule of filing frivolous lawsuits to do something!!

Donatella you’re missing my question. Nobody is saying crime doesn’t exist. The question is the driver.
Well, BSD, I was clarifying to you the NATURE of the crime, which is often associated with drug-related activity — not breaking and entering and mugging – but fatal shootings and drive by shootings. Not necessarily for drug money, though that may be the case, but in turf related battles over drugs. This may be a wonderful topic for a Phd in Criminology, but I think that if you contact the 88th Precinct and/or contact the office of Leticia James, you might be able to get more information on these particular crimes.
I used to live off Nostrand – and the open drug activity I would see (centered around St John’s) had nothing to do with pot.
