satc-04-2008.jpgIt makes you wonder: Now that much of Manhattan has turned into a theme park version of “Sex and the City,” would Carrie Bradshaw and the gang still live on the island? Probably not, since Manhattan is as played out as a pair of last season’s Manolos. “It’s expensive, and it’s not what it used to be,” Sarah Jessica Parker tells the Daily News. “That’s why the outer boroughs are so desirable. The outer boroughs are pretty sexy. It’s just a matter of time before they have their own shows.” According to the article, “If ‘Sex’ were starting over today, Carrie would rock out Carroll Gardens. BFF Miranda started out in Park Slope, but later, she’s bound to settle down with Steve, Brady and a brand new car in spacious Red Hook,” while Samantha would roost in Long Island City and Charlotte would play house in Riverdale. The article has quotes from Brooklyn residents who say stuff like, “Carroll Gardens or Williamsburg have a little bit of the hip edge that Carrie has, so she’d be able to get away with her funky outfits and no one would think twice about it.” Hip, edgy, less expensive than Manhattan: You heard it here first, folks. Also, the apocalypse is nigh.

  1. 11:59 wow…that’s about as racist as it gets!!! Didn’t she actually convert to Judaism and marry a Jewish gentleman on the show

And no, even with the name David I’m not jewish so I’ve got no personal axe to grind

  2. Ha fictional characters have more impact on the city than the real suckers who live here. An entire city was transformed by FRIENDS AND Sex and the CITY and Seinfeld, Law and Order, even Three’s COmpany, not to mention Archie Bunker and Gilligans Island, I mean Manhattan is an island you know..Wow And we all thought LA was lame . Funny too these chicks are not that hot.

  3. Thanks sam. I wonder if those old ladies ran into Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Katie Cox, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand et.al. who recently shot Burn After Reading here.

  4. That’s nothing to be ashamed of, 12:36.

The point is you moved here and are thriving it seems. Living here 8 years is a success. Not everyone is cut out for life in the big city.

I don’t think it matters at all why someone comes here…everyone has different reasons.

And the amount of airtime New York City has received since the dawn of the television age would make it impossible for most to deny that something they saw on tv inspired them to come here.

Doesn’t matter if it’s SATC, or one of the other thousands of shows that have depicted New York. That’s the great thing about a city like New York…there is literally something for everyone here.

  5. I will sheepishly admit to having moved to Manhattan in 2000 because that show made me love the city. I soon realized that in real life, women like the characters on SATC would never be my friend (except maybe Miranda.) And it made sense that Miranda was the only one who (grudgingly) moved to Brooklyn. I always found it bizarre that in a show that somewhat accurately described some of the idiosyncracies of living in NYC NEVER had those women taking the subway. That is such a huge part of my existence here, even before I moved to Brooklyn.
