Restaurant Happenings on North Flatbush Avenue

The North Flatbush Avenue BID’s monthly newsletter provided lots of updates regarding the handful of restaurants opening up along the Park Slope/Prospect Heights border. Here’s a summary: The Velvet Peach Cafe, at 335 Flatbush Avenue, will be transformed into a full-service restaurant and bar with live jazz during Sunday brunch. The name will be changed to Elberta’s. (Here’s Park Slope initially reported that the joint will reopen this month.) The Hungry Ghost Cafe is on track for an April opening and will serve Stumptown coffee and fresh baked goods. Fortune 500, the avenue’s only 99 cent store, will give up its lease at the end of April, as will Little Vinnie’s, at 452 Dean Street. (Vinnie’s Styles will remain open at 160 Flatbush). The Flatbush Ave. BID will soon mediate a meeting between owners of proposed bar Kemistry and its neighbors, although no date is set yet. The owner of Carlton Park (pictured), the organic restaurant under construction on the corner of Flatbush and Prospect, was faced with a SWO and plans to work things out in court in the coming week. The owner will also apply for a sidewalk cafe license shortly. Finally, owners of Woodland (formerly Prime Six) are waiting on the city for inspections to clear, and plan to open as soon as they do.
