J.Mclaughlin, which has been outfitting preppies on the Upper East Side for years from its Third Avenue store, made its first inroads to Brooklyn last week with the opening of a new shop at 218 Hicks Streets in Brooklyn Heights. Evidently the company’s creative director fell in love with the neighborhood and thought it was underserved in the clothing department. The vibrant, charming and historic community of Brooklyn Heights felt like the perfect fit for us. We saw a apparent disconnect in the area which is filled with stylish consumers but few appropriate retail spaces, so when something became available on Hicks Street we jumped at the chance to open a new store, Kevin McLaughlin said.

stylish, brooklyn heights and that store are three things that have never and shouldn’t ever meet.
“No self-respecting preppy would every shop there – that stuff isn’t even close to preppy.”
slopenick, I agree with the first part of your post, but not the rest. I “prepped” and wore none of the clothes you suggest are MIA. Also, Sebago’s shoes are “Docksides”, not “Docksiders”, but no self-respecting preppy would wear any boat shoes other than Sperry Top-Siders. Let the pillaging begin!!
These shorts with skull and crossbones are pretty cool

“CGar, if I ever see you wearing one of their printed shorts, I WILL pull it off you.
Better to wear nothing than shorts that look like like boxers.”
I love when you tear my clothes off, ET.
Pom-Pom shorts for Men…
The What
Someday this war is gonna end
No self-respecting preppy would every shop there – that stuff isn’t even close to preppy. First of all, I see no ducks. Ducks are a must for preppy clothes. You need the four color widewale cords (yellow/lime green, navy and maroon), and if they have little ducks on them, all the better. This store would never sell those. Docksiders are a must. Doubt they have those.
I say bring back jean cut off short shorts.
There seems to be an apparent disconnect between what these people set out to do, and whoever did their window styling. The man-mannequin to the right is wearing easy pull up mom shorts and is showing WAY too much cheesecake… Even preppsters don’t dress this bad.
And no Nantucket red and all…?
Minard, that was brilliant. Very funny.
