  1. sassy, please. i’m a “wannabee” now? what do i want to be, 50-cent? i want to be a thug or a junky now because i don’t care to see one more designer stroller roll down the street?

spare me, i’ve actually read jane jacobs “the death and life of great american cities” (something i doubt you have done)and understand the need to know and look out for you neighbors. what i’ve said and some of you are too bourgeouis to understand is that if all of brooklyn were to resemble your ideal, platonic form of brooklyn, it would be a suburban, rowhouse existence and it would be awful. thankfully, i truly believe this cannot completely happen, though you all have made frightening progress towards your totalitarian vision.

  2. I don’t really agree 100% with any of the post here, I believe everyone has a point. I think it’s great that an establishment such as this has been closed. My gripe is that it SEEMS as though change only comes in the form of gentrification. It’s not until a neighborhood becomes particular relevant in terms of value does this form of change occur. I think it’s a mixture of a cultural/racial/financial issue. Why is it that now this is ocurring? As other have said, they’re are so many other neighborhoods that suffer from these situations. Are they not as relevant? or perhaps not yet?

  3. i don’t care about the prince hotel group, or particularly about the prostitutes and drug addicts for that matter. i live in brooklyn too. what i care about is this ridiculous suburban sensibility that is invading the borough from cobble hill to park slope, fort greene to boerum hill. that is what i have a problem and that is what many, many people have a problem with.

i do not care if you are black, white or asian. i care that you want the borough that i love to be some sterilized children’s haven when there are plenty of communities all over the nation, which already exist and were set up exactly in the way you’d like to see brooklyn be transformed.

  4. The Prince Lefferts Group is under serious investigation. When the IRS, Federal, State and City authorities get through with them they are going to regret the day that they got involved in this shady business. When you lie down with dogs, you get fleas…..

  5. I would understand this debate if we were speaking of noise complaints generated by a fun, funky bar or risky art or just about anything but drug trafficking and street prostitution. Those of you who oppose efforts by residents (longtime, newecomers, etc) to create a safe environment for themselves and yes even their children, seem to be confusing criminality with creativity. And sure if I lived in Bed-Stuy (well, actually many would say I do), I’d be working to do something about it there. As it is I have already been threatened after asking a prostitute to stop leaning on my fence, and this morning I got the long stare (for reason unknown) from a guy who I think works as a runner for the dealer on Irving. I’ve chosen in my professional life to hold the police accountable for their actions on the street – I think we all have the right to live in a safe environment. To suggest I have to move to the suburbs is to say that the natural lot of the city is crime. There seems to be a bit too much fetishizing of the drug-thug etc by certain wannabees…

  6. Atriss, I’m the poster from 1:52pm. For your information, I’m not new to the area and neither is anyone else who served on the community group. Again, we are black and are long time residents of the block. Now what? Your feeble attempt to highjack this thread simply to make a social statement on gentrification is appalling and pathetic. Kindly get off of your soap box for a minute and listen to those who are directly and adversely impacted by this hotel. Further, try having some compassion for us! We are the true victims here. Our children are the victims here. Not the drug addicts and prostitutes. And certainly not the Prince Hotel Group which has profited quite handsomely at the expense of the community!!
