I understand your point, but I live and own throughout Bedstuy, Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. I’ve been a member of every block association related to my residences. And I can tell you from personal experience, the cries for help in some neighborhoods do fall on deaf ears. Unless you’ve experienced this, you can’t tell me anything different.
I think it’s great that Brooklyn is becoming safer, it just seems, note SEEMS as though safety coincides with how a neighborhood changes in terms of it’s residents.
Mind you I’ve lived in Clinton Hill over 10 years and the same cries for help fell on deaf ears. I’m just outlining what seems to be the pattern.
Yes, yes, you can get the dealing out of your backyard if you make a big stink about it (and, perhaps, if you’re affluent enough for city officials to care what you think). But so what? You’re just moving it INTO someone else’s backyard, and while this may be a victory for YOU, it doesn’t really solve any problems and it creates a problem for SOMEONE ELSE.
Please tell me that you finally understand this very simple point now.
atriss,
I think you’re argument is getting a bit immature.
Sassy,
Your argument has no basis. How do you come to the conclusion that only the educated and wealthy cry for help and change in their neighborhoods. Last time I checked, Lefferts place was made up of wealthy, middle-class, educated and uneducated alike.
i always wanted to buy a hotel. if they close let me know and is for sale hehe. i want to do a real hotel not some crack whore one.
atriss,
“i plan on raising them to unerstand that there are many different types of people in the world. ”
LOL! That is the most hilarious post ever! LOL!
So you want them to meet prostitutes and drug dealers?
sassy, who’s the wannabe now? you didn’t stand up and demand anything. you wouldn’t dare face any of these prostitutes and junkies you complain about in person. you talk tough and “demand” action in the safety of your block association meetings and via the internet on your brownstoner message boards, but you frankly wouldn’t dare say anything to any of these people. you’re a clown.
sassy, no i don’t have children yet. but when i do have some of my own, i plan on raising them to unerstand that there are many different types of people in the world. that is why i would prefer to raise children in the city than in the suburbs. and that is why i would prefer for my city not to be made to resemble the suburbs.
not relevant=relevant
Sassy,
I’m afraid the South Bronx is also in the process of gentrification.
SoBro.
I think the real problem is not that Brooklyn is become a safe haven for yuppies and their children, I think problem is that unless your neighborhood is not relevant in the wider scope of things, it seems as though you are looked over.
