As promised, Pier 6, the second piece of the Brooklyn Bridge Park puzzle, opened this past weekend. In a city where playgrounds tend to be on the smaller side, this 1.6-acre layout offers just about anything a kid could ever dream of. There is a water park with fountains and streams, a 6,000-square-foot sandbox, slides (including some that looked two stories high), and an area known as “Swing Valley,” a hilly area complete with gigantic rope swings. The park is surrounded by a wide bikeway and promenade, and there is also a dog run. Eventually, the park will be getting volleyball courts, more lawn area, and a restaurant. It’s a pretty impressive accomplishment, and great to see that much life brought to that end of Atlantic.

  1. I’m kinda uncomfortable with these no adults without kids things. When I used to live in BH we took da kid to the Pierrpont Playground all the time. The other day I was on the promenade grabbing a bite, and, seeing that the mens room was open, decided to use it. According to the sign on the gate, I wasn’t supposed to even enter. Fuck that, I went anyway.

If a guy acts like a perv, call the cops or chase him out. Everyone has a cell phone these days…

cgar, try being my size in an airplane!

  2. “unfortunalty catering to the family is what the city has become.”

As Cindy Adams would say “Only in New York folks.” Where else would you find such belly aching about family friendly amenities?

  3. Oh god, I love that second to last pic! So far from the truth it is laugh out loud. That place was so crowded, you couldn’t see your FEET let alone make out your children. Giant game of Where’s Waldo!

It was fabulous though. And the company even better.

    (Hiya CGar!)

  4. “There will be plenty of activities along the park for adults – beach volleyball, boardwalk, etc.”

if you’re not coordinated to hit a ball bigger than the size of your head coming at you, it’s useless.
Boardwalk – a sidewalk made out of wood planks.
    oooooh, fun [sarcasm]

Okay, let the kids play volleyball, walk on boardwalk and picnic on grass and let the adults in the ‘play areas’.

Why can’t they create ‘play areas’ with water, swings and slides for adults? What adult isn’t going to admit to wanting to run thru a sprinkler, or swing so high in the air. But yet, we reserve ourselves cause it’s not the norm. Only kids are supposed to ‘play’.
I admit I go to a park and play on the swings and climb the jungle gym. And why shouldn’t I? it’s fun.
