  1. Not that it’s any picnic for the parents, whose employers expect 12-hour days, which is more than most daycares can accommodate and often spend more than half of their take-home pay on the nanny. Which probably also does not breed the best working relationship?

This country has no good options, really. The best places are probably the licensed “in-home” ones that take a bunch of kids. They can afford to be inexpensive.

  2. wow.. nannies work 14 hours a day? poor neglected kids 🙁 no wonder they grow up to be such brats. im sorry but if you are away from your baby for 14 hours a day, guess what? you suck as a parent. but i guess that ginormour mortgage needs to be paid somehow and you need the latest countertop :-/

  3. Rob, $500/week for a 14 hour day (common) and no overtime, in which you get no breaks because you are also expected to clean if/when the kids nap or go to school, is not that great. In fact, it is pretty terrible. Also, not really any job security. All of the things that us SAHMs take for granted, like Nick Jr. are usually off-limits as well. And, finally, you get accused of “just sitting in the park not doing anything” by everyone, when in fact you are trapped in the park because most parents want their children, even in infancy, to spend at least six or seven hours a day out of the house.

  4. What with the moves in C, AIG, FNM & FRE today, the us taxpayer, through the Treasury holdings, is making gobs & gobs of money!!!!! Billions!!!!!

LMAO!! that was the funniest thing you’ve ever said!!

  5. A friend of mine has a Bugaboo stroller and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to close it. I got so frustrated trying that I yanked it through the door to get it in the house. I probably punctured one of the tires.

  6. quote:
Nannies usually get a pretty lousy deal

wait, did you even read the article everywhere about park slope nannies making 500-750 dollars a WEEK and NOT PAYING TAXES on it!? i dont think that’s a lousy deal at all. they sit in the park all day gossiping and making fun of the uptight high pollutant mommies and whipped daddies.. i say that’s a pretty sweet deal. so much so that part of me wants to pull a mrs doubtfire and become a nanny myself!
