Slopefarm;
You’re missing my point,I think. When I say “stake in the system”, I am referring to the operation of our government, and the way in which it allocates resources. So, to make my point more clear: it is a dangerous thing to have folks who do not pay into government, but only receive benefits from it, in the form of an EIC credit. I am not stating that people who receive the EIC are lazy, or free loaders, or any such thing. I’m only stating that it is a natural human tendency to be less concerned about something in which you have no stake.
You and I could probably argue all day about the proper size of government and even if we disagree, I’ll respect what you advocate because you a stakeholder. Whatever tax laws you would propose would apply equally to you as well as me.
When you have a large group of folks who have no such stake, they will not be thinking along the same lines. One can read the history of the Roman Empire, and find that such a situation was a key contributor to its decline and fall. Towards the end of its days, the Roman Empire had few true citizens left, hence the term “Bread and Circuses”.
okay…creepy, life size figure of a woman seated, a man seated, a cook, and a butler.
Oooooh, a victorian style dollhouse pg. 139…with my dream wrap around porch. Hey, I just paid my taxes I can’t afford the real thing, a doll house it is.
Hubby would love those model train (pg. 156)
Oh, a vintage ice cream bike pg 158. How cool would that be riding around the streets of brooklyn…it has a flat though.
Neverland valley electrified horse-drawn carriage (pg 175) – I’m going to need one of those horses with the wigs
So if the top wage-earners leave New York, their apartments will be rented… eventually for cheap. Priorities here, people. Who’s ready to move to Park Avenue or the Ansonia with me? (If you all came — well, some of you — it might even be palatable.)

Did Nomi come by? I have a basket of baked goods and some daffodils, will that work?
Hi Nomi! Hi park dope!
Now what’s this about people’s mothers telling them not to hang out with us? ; )

Everyone that makes less than $100k spends all of it. hell, everyone who makes less than $400-500,000 spends all of it it would seem.
I really liked some of the Victorian furniture pieces he has. I never would have thunk he’d have that kinda stuff.
Well put Slopefarm.
