My sisters and I used to play on the fire escape. We’d put a blanket down and have a tea party. Things would fall through to the yard; which wasn’t used by anyone; I was the bravest one, so they made me go down the fire escape ladder and get the teacups that fell.
“ENY…When it was time to come in and you were nowhere to be seen did your parents just hollar your names off of the front porch???”
My Mom would stick her head out of the back window and holler at us. At that time, the back of our house faced a HUGE open tract of undeveloped land that is now taken up by a residential housing development. We kids had turned part of the plot into our own neighborhood baseball field, where I spent about 98% of my summers. Most of our houses lined the “field” and our parents would just call to us from the window when it was time to go in. We would make fun of the kids whose parents called them in the earliest!

When we were selling the rule was to be in front of the streetlights.

THL, yes I was an adorable kid, and am one foxy woman right now!!!
[I almost choked on my own tongue saying that]
Hello again everyone! When we were small the rule was to be in front of the house by the time the streetlights came on.
Congrats Dirty Hipster. That’s got to be a relief.
ENY- That was me, the first one called in. My dad worked an early shift so we always ate dinner around 5:30.
BRG having a tea party with her sisters on the fire escape. How adorable is that image?
“wohoo – just found out i will not be laid off from my job…..celebrate good times!!”
That is good news. The NY Times just announced they’re cutting pay for most employees by 5 percent for a nine-month period and laying off 100 people.
DIBS…quit it
