  1. When I was a hiring mgr. we did a background check (using SS#) for criminal activity not job history. Even then you had to sign a special authorization form to allow the use of your SS# for that specific purpose.

“Oh no! We’re screwed! But in the meantime, it…”
Mopar, that made me LOL big time!

  2. Looking for a job is second only to going through a divorce in terms of stress. I am interviewing people for a contracted gig right now; the whole process is so “wait and see” and “be hopeful but be prepared to be turned down at any stage, no matter how promising things are.”

I can see from both sides of the table how difficult it is, but certainly it’s worse for the seeker. Many times it’s a personality contest – whether you are perceived to fit in with the staff that’s already there – which is of course nothing you can prepare for in an interview.

  3. “China’s central bank on Monday proposed replacing the US dollar as the international reserve currency with a new global system controlled by the International Monetary Fund.”

Oh no! We’re screwed! But in the meantime, it might be helpful to know that if you put the peel in, you get bitter marmalade. If you leave it out, you get sweet.

MM, I happen to know the head of sourcing for Gap here in NYC. Do you want me to ask him if they’re hiring?

Also, re resumes….I am not sure but I think they do a background check on your social security number and can tell all the places you’ve worked. Maybe?

  4. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! so i decided to treat myself to a nice lunch today so i went to a plain old cafeteria style deli and got some macaroni tuna salad, small bowl, and it came to like almost 7 bux!!! then i went to duane read to get some good razor blades because the cheapie dollar store ones i bought in bulk were just not working and 5 blades cost almost 16 bux!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr nickel and dimed to death EVERYWHERE!

    *rob*

  5. Welcome back from lunch. I wasn’t going to be tempted by Brownstoner until I get home in the evening, buuuut….

Announcing my new feature: homework sentence of the day!

Japan was one of the many developing cities along with many others and becoming a strong nation Japan was in desperate need for recourses, but the way to fight for more resources would be in a way following the constitution and the will of the human right but with the Japanese not knowing of such a rule the way of war to them was very brutal almost as if the nation itself was getting raped by the Japanese.

Somehow this student has made it to 11th grade. English is her second language but she speaks it fluently. She’s been in my class since February. I have until June to make her and many others competent writers, and I’m a history teacher.
