Thanks again to all for their Philly recommendations. The Champs had a wonderful time on the weekend. We managed to hit many of the historical spots (Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, etc.), Eastern State Penitentiary, Reading Market, South Street and also drove around the side streets by Rittenhouse Square to look at some of the homes. Philly is much nicer than I recall from my last visit, although, like Boston, people aren’t too thrilled to see a Yankees hat.
Where we stayed seemed to be on the outskirts of the gay area, which was terrific as that meant there were lots of nice shops and restaurants nearby. There also appeared to be lots of “alternative lifestyle” individuals staying in our hotel. I couldn’t tell if that standard for Philly or if Lady Gaga was in town.
“yeah many times. there are areas of long island that are totally hardcore section 8. landlords know how to game the system.”
yeah – and those are areas of long island that have been poor for decades. if anything the rents in long island are high because of the ridiculous bubble that was there for a number of years (and subsequent burst, which never happened in brooklyn)
DH, I pay 3 for tacos down in Richmond but they are big – ie 2 tacos would definitely fill up my big stomach. BTW, the tacos down there are freaking good.
taste aside, I think small tacos are better; I’m always annoyed when vendors stuff all the tacos so full of stuff that they can’t be eaten without stuff spilling all over the place.
blowfish, skip that Fulton one. DEFINITE “Bypass”. Them big tacos from those Asian Tex Mex places are way way better and way way bigger.

school districts play a big role in rents too.
but patchogue is nothing special
m4l, i read that the Greene taco place has $3.50 tacos and- get this- charges $7 for chips and guac
bfarwell, there’s small and there’s tiny. this was tiny. and when they charge 3.65 and it doesnt taste great, it’s criminal

“rents are jacked up on long island cuz of section 8. (seriously)”
