Randi, It’s not amongst families. It’s within the community (which is very small – maybe about 500 families). Even if you had the money to lay out for a home there, good luck getting a broker to show you a house. All very exclusive only within the community. You have NO idea how much money these people have. They can buy 10 BK Heights homes and not even flinch (I know, I worked for them for a couple of years during college).
“if these are all deals between families or close friends why the need to jack the price up so much if there ISN’T something illegal going on or money to be laundered??? ”
from what i understand – it’s a very small market consisting of really rich, really pretentious people.
re: the gravesend house that sold for 10mil, or the prices in that neighborhood in general…if these are all deals between families or close friends why the need to jack the price up so much if there ISN’T something illegal going on or money to be laundered???

You pretty much nailed it. We are talking beyond BK Heights and Manhattan rich here.

Speaking of hiring girls and whatnot, the following is an actual email exchange between me and my wife this morning:
Me at 9:39 am: “I’m standing in a chinese laundry on 56th with no pants on.”
Mrs Lech at 9:41 am: “No happy ending!!”
Ha, Lech. funny. You have met your match.
It’s money laundering randi. Plain and simple.
