  1. Canvas.

    And one word: Plastics.

All the canvas tote bags and gym bags you see people carrying on the subway, emblazoned with the names of the big banks, are made by my great aunt’s company. They also custom manufactured canvas, e.g., boat & car covers, awnings, tarps, etc.

She also acquired a Lucite company that custom made everything in Lucite, from deal tombstones to clipboards. I wasn’t kidding about plastics.

  2. “Where can I buy a very strong magnet in midtown manhattan right now?”

I can’t tell, is this for your generator project with the kids, or are you blogging your efforts to become a Bond villain?

  3. It’s really interesting how much cleaner it is here, all because the city was built with alleyways to put all the garbage in.

You still have your share of D-Bags out here, just not as many…and more of the corn fed used to play football in high school and now suck variety.
