I am going to a contemporary art exhibit tonight at the Japan Society entitled “Bye Bye Kitty” — a group of contemporary artists and it is described as post “Kawaii” (cute) and post “otaku” (i.e. manga and geek anime). It looks interesting. I am tired though.
m4l, when my daughter went to school on Catherine St. it took me 15-18 mins to get from my house (further from the Manh. Bridge than Clinton Hill!) to her school. Just sayin’. Maybe that’s because there were 2 of us in the car so we could use the HOV lane on the upper level of the bridge? It was just amazingly fast.
dibs I think the days of non-degreed bright boys who started in the mailroom no longer exist. Especially since the mailrooms are all outsourced these days.
I don’t have any kind of degree but I think a lot harder to make it today than it was back in the day.
My WS relative had a very hard time getting a job when he graduated college years ago, even with a degree in econ from a top school and good grades. He finally, thru college connection, got a training job at a small shop. And he had to get his MBA pretty pronto after that.
rf, I would just suck it up and park it at a lot via their early bird special. It is not cheaper for me to live in lower Manhattan than in brooklyn but rather an increase in convenience. my current cost to live in my aptmt is probably the cheapest among us here except for the wise English teacher.
I’m posting from my car to Philly now. No Amtrak for me today. My partner had to spend the day up here looking at restaurant private dining rooms for a muckety muck dinner for the pharmaceutical firm he works for.
Hi m4l… off the SLV train as the action is crazy… the other day calls and puts on it were the most active equity options… volume triple S&P SPDRS, huge volume and no shares to borrow.
Price action crazy. Seems like a crash in the works.
Sticking with the gold local, also have some PALL which hasn’t moved much.
Deployed some of the profits in CORN which is up 5% today.
Here’s an observation on big pharma:
Avelox seems to be a big winner.
Kills bugs like crazy and it’s easy to prescribe.
Beyer-Schering Manufacturer
dona, i tend to go out less in Manhattan since I moved to Brooklyn…the “tired” factor and the trip home is certainly the primary factor
I agree with you, denton. Things have changed. Same thing about being able to buy a house when you’re under thirty on a somewhat normal bank salary.

Spending at big pharma still knows no bounds
