What many on the left are beginning to realize is that the economy is like a game of whack-a-mole.
No, the economy isn’t wack-a-mole, any only lefties who are pathologically incapable of understanding economics and/or having a notion of history could be surprised at this point. Raise, or promise to raise already high taxes, and economic activity slows to a grind. Say and do stupid things about energy production, and energy prices will go up. Scare people with pre-failed socialist policies like The Stimulus, and Cash For Clunkers, and they are even more scared. Demonize “The Rich,” and the smartest, most talented and ambitious people will stop being so.
“Obama has totally dropped the ball wrt the deficit. He appoints a commission, which came up with a serious plan. He ignores their plan, and then submits a budget that increases the deficit. He berates Ryan’s plan, and has yet to offer specific policy counter-proposals.”
Brooklyn Couch, Legion my friend, wrong-o-reindeer. The bimbo from Crown Heights nailed it:
“Obama . . . DID try to negotiate with the Republicans, from day one. They ignored him, tried to get around him, sat on their hands and said NO to everything.”
Obama wasted 2 years trying to be bipartisan and negotiate, and the Republicans instead refused and became the party of no because that’s what they saw as their best route to win the 2010 mid-terms.
Something might actually get accomplished in D.C. if people weren’t raising money and running for re-election from the instant they take the oath of office.
Arkady, it’s very early. Remember that governor of Arkansas who nobody knew and came out of nowhere “late” in the game??? There are a lot of Republicn governors out there.
It has it’s bad side as well.
Brasil has been cozying up to China for a while now.
The same Chinese who handed North Korea missile technology that was given to the Chinese during the Clinton administration and the “Loral” deal.
I don’t blame Brasil or India for expanding and growing.
It’s only natural. Especially for India which is the world’s largest Democracy and our natural ally.
-I’ll agree with you that walking away from the table is a tactic that both sides use, and in fact, is a legitimate negotiating move.
-Having no policy proposals is not the same thing as walking away from the table. Obama has totally dropped the ball wrt the deficit. He appoints a commission, which came up with a serious plan. He ignores their plan, and then submits a budget that increases the deficit. He berates Ryan’s plan, and has yet to offer specific policy counter-proposals.
I think the political realities that any President faces once he comes into office, and the information he is made privy to after election have a lot to do with how that President acts. Especially in the Middle East. I’m disappointed that Obama has not done more but on the other hand, it’s not like he can operate freely. He pays attention, whereas Bush acted like a little bully king.
That fact is that going into Iraq was the big mistake. The real danger was in Afghanistan and Pakistan and they suffered through a neglect for that mission by Bush. Now Obama has to deal with the situation he was handed. 8 years worth of damage will not be fixed in 2. The counter-insurgency effort the Bush started and then forgot may be out only choice at this point.
“three stooges are here
time to read some of the other threads”
I’ll take that as an acknowledgement that
you read and understood my explanation on why defense spending can only be cut so far DH.
Comedy Central is no place to get serious information,
by the way. ;o)

That about sums it up.

It comes at a price though.
CGar;
A few points:

-Having no policy proposals is not the same thing as walking away from the table. Obama has totally dropped the ball wrt the deficit. He appoints a commission, which came up with a serious plan. Polls still show him leading for ’12 & the splintered GOP nutjobs sharing ratings that don’t go over 19% (for the Donald, no less!)
