Funny you mention atheists bfarwell…. so last night I was talking to the Mrs about this whole joining a church idea, and I said I have no problem joining a church but I’m not going to lie to anyone if they ask if I believe in God. This segued into a version of the theism vs. atheism vs. agnosticism discussion, and I reiterated my long-standing position that humans are incapable of knowing the existence or non-existence of God. Her response, which I actually found interesting, was that that’s not at all inconsistent with *faith* in God, and there would be no point at all in faith if there was actual knowledge one way or another. Interesting point. It of course begs the question why one would feel the need to have faith, other than the usual human desire to feel like you have purpose, aren’t just a brief flicker of biological activity, etc. Anyways her point was that believing in God doesn’t imply knowledge of the existence of God, it’s just an expression of faith — and solving for why to have faith in something you don’t know exists is the issue.
I personally see no coherent argument in favor of faith, so agnostic I remain. But it was an interesting point that wasn’t made the other day on the OT.

cobble- good to know; I couldn’t remember if it tasted all that sweet (I don’t make it all that often) and since my wife really likes BBread, didn’t want to screw it up. Will def. trying knocking it down next time.
cobble- are your other pans glass? metal will tend to brown a bit more quickly in my experience…

Replace “pan”/”loaf pan” with “toilet” above.
