MEGAPUSSI!!!!!!!
No it was at the top because we were thinking (drunk and playing poker late one night) that selling sovereign equity would be basically selling a package of the right to tax with the obligation to provide services, and since the sovereign is sovereign it can tax as much as it wants as long as people don’t revolt. We figured that finns, as socialist sheep but also hard workers, would have the perfect mix of people who would keep working hard and suffering an incredibly high tax rate without ever revolting. Very different from, say, Italy, which would get a very low multiple on account of the fact that 99% of the country engages in tax fraud.
“Why doesn’t the govt issue stock instead of bonds?”
haha this was actually the subject of a long-running surreal inside joke with some friends of mine all about how we were going to start the firm’s sovereign equity practice. I had a ranking of countries whose equity would get the highest multiples. Finland was at the top.
So my home laptop is biting the dust and it looks like I need to buy a new one (insert 40 character cuss here). I just checked out dell.com and gateway.com and it looks like there are normalish laptops for like $600 or $700. Is that right? Are laptops really that cheap now? I bought a piece of crap in 2007 (the one that is dying now) and it cost something like $1200.
All I need is something that can surf the internet and has basic progams like word and excel loaded onto it. Can anyone recommend something?

Make it non-voting and no dividends.

“Just worked it out: will be going to Japan for training in mid-June. Hopefully things will be settled down by then.”
I’m sure they will, and you’ll come back glowing!
I guess the equivalent of the government issuing stock would be selling voting rights, along rights to future government profits.
I don’t see that ever happening.
Right, arkady. She said yes.
(We’ll see how long it takes someone else to catch on.)
