One last bit of subway geekery – the track widths are Standard Guage, meaning a NYC subway car could roll on almost any rail track in the U.S., along with many in Europe and other countries.
Getting power would be another issue.
I still call them IRT, etc. Not only that, since I am not good at remembering numbers, I refer to the Lex Av uptown express or 7th Av downtown local & so on.
Since when do PLUSAs email each other asking if it’s OK to riff on their posts?? And if they were somehow offended by earlier sarcasm????
Second Avenue Subway will be BMT/IND.
The initial routing will most likely be as an extension of the Q train.
I still call them IRT, etc
I started riding the subway by myself in the mid ’70’s right after they dropped the IRT, BMT labels form the map.
I only know that the IRT is the Lexington Ave line because that was lined I lived on.

“in MA you have to insure your car through the state”
When I briefly lived in MA in 2007, GEICO was not available there. It was the only state in which GEICO was unavailable. Ridiculous.
